Investigation: Patterns of Colors in Caldas Visual Interpretation of the regional chromatic values.

Description: The study of the regional chromatism, it constitutes in an inexhaustible source of knowledge that under the perspective of a visual investigation, it acquires a substantial importance in the interpretation of the information, it declares in multiple applications, from the objective culture, the habitational topology, until the perceptual landscape. The careful analysis of this information, allows to establish relations and comparisons between the visual force of the color in the natural atmosphere and the popular expression, in order to value its behavior, to spread its knowledge and to assume it like fundamental tool of the work of the designer. The natural and created chromatic values, they condition of special way the visual character of a region.
The approach to its knowledge, becomes a fundamental base for the identification of own patterns of color, by means of which a culture interacts with its means and it are expressed visually. The color patterns, thus identified, they are a methodological contribution very useful for the designers and they become an instrument of interest at the moment for applying the color in surroundings with own particularities, environmental and space as objective and as much communicational. On the other hand the spreading of the regional chromatic values, that is one of the intentions of the investigation, is based on the continuity of the academic work, that ties students with its social and cultural context and makes possible the update of the data in the work of continued field. The investigation establishes three subjects of interest: the landscape, the regional architecture and the popular expressions, for which it defines patterns of color in each one of the towns and places of the city of Manizales and the caldense region, where the information has been compiled. In the study it is analyzed comparatively the chromatic, environmental and socio-cultural aspects of each studied scope.

Investigation: The World of Visual Design. University of Caldas 1992 - 1997 Finalized.

Description: The investigation the World of Visual Design explores, academically and institutionally, the development of the area of Design and the Visual contact by its novel conception and the possibility of creating original forms of professional formation and an average one to increase to the quality of life and the social and intellectual productivity. The project goes directed to create a strategic policy that takes so much to consolidate the positioning of the university in the context of the superior education, for the field of study before mentioned, like giving to the region and to the country investigation and services of great quality. Considering, this way, the importance of taking part decisively in the visual surroundings, mainly regional, and to update themselves and to question the academic debates immediate to world-wide level; and more important still, to combine these two aspects. For it, we worked from three perspective: - Analysis of the world-wide Training centers related to the visual design. - Study of the relation City Image. - Project of an Institute of Investigations of the Image. The first study had as it bases the visit to the Schools and Training centers of Design on the United States and Europe, and the compilation of information asked for through correspondence and by Internet. From this compilation and the previous conceptualization of three great areas of study for the visual design: fixed image, movable image and environmental image; the main pedagogical and investigative concepts studied, thematic to study and the present tendencies of education in the professional formation of Visual Design theoretically to refute the conceptualization and the development that the Department and the Program of Visual Design of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Caldas must consolidate according to the academic contemporarily and of study of the visual world.

Investigation: Visual Expression in the Cities of the Bahareque. Search Center and Scientific Development - School of Visual Design
University of Caldas 1988 - 1994. Published.

Description: The investigation makes an approach to the visual expression of some municipalities in Caldas where the architecture in bahareque is representative. For it, a typological classification of the models of the visual components of the local architecture sets out and a graphical registry of the main analyzed elements is made. This investigation, which leaves from the analysis and the detailed description of the visual archetypes of the cities of the Bahareque is a effort to promote the recovery of a legacy important to create an evolutionary infrastructure notion that tends to reinforce the idea of the improvement like something implicit to the environmental surroundings of the cities of the Colombian coffee region. Finalized in 1994 and published in 1995.

11. MAIN EXTENSION PROJECTS.

International Festival of the Image.

Description: The International Festival of the Image is an event of recognized national and international projection. It has consolidated like scene of diffusion and work interchange of digital creators who involve aesthetic developments and social transformations, from the technologies of the information on world-wide scale that they explore the new multimedia contents. Also it is defined as a space where the creators, the institutions, the laboratories, the centers of creation and investigation, the company, the designers and the public in general interact. Until the moment three versions have been made: first in 1997, to which attended more than 1,500 people, second in 1998, with similar participation and the third that took place in the 2003. To the three events personalities of the design and creators of images from Spain, France, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, The United States, Japan, Venezuela, Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Canada were invited.

Laboratory of Virtual Surroundings

Description: LABORATORY OF VIRTUAL SURROUNDINGS (AVERAGE LAB) is an initiative of the University of Caldas which frames itself in the Investigative Dimension of the Project MEC, Manizales Axis of the Knowledge. It specifically develops the culture of the innovation and creation as a part of the cultural attribute characteristic of the computer science networks, through the interchange of communication and knowledge between investigators, as a way to establish a bridge between the academy and enterprise projects.
